MPs from the ruling party have expressed dissatisfaction with the government's decision to make it mandatory to pay customs duty on goods worth more than Rs 100 from India. MPs from the National Independent Party have expressed their dissatisfaction, saying that the government's decision has caused suffering to the common people in the border areas.

Protesting this move of the government, some MPs of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party elected from Madhesh have reached Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and demanded a reconsideration of the matter. Rashtriya Swatantra Party Madhesh Province President and Siraha 4 MP Tapeshwor Yadav said that they have demanded immediate facilitation of the border.

'Nepal and India have a historical relationship of bread and butter, the common people have been affected by this harsh decision of the government, so I have asked the Home Minister to reconsider it,' he told Kantipur, 'Smuggling should be controlled, but it is wrong to make the common people who bring goods for personal sponsorship suffer in the name of that.'

Similarly, Siraha 2 MP Shivshankar Yadav has also complained to the Home Minister about the suffering faced by citizens at the border. He said that organized smuggling has been taking place in Madhesh with the connivance of the police administration and that although the government's efforts to stop it are good, the common people are facing problems by making the same arrangements for everyone.

MP Yadav informed that he has demanded an immediate solution to this issue from the Home Minister. 'The government's efforts to control smuggling are good, but if everyone is treated the same, the common people are suffering,' he said. 'The government should solve this.'

According to MP Yadav, other MPs from Madhesh have also spoken to the government and the party on this issue. The MPs from Madhesh are of the opinion that smuggling, drugs and money laundering should be controlled in the border area and that there should be flexibility in household and production-oriented materials.

A group of Madhesh youth have also demonstrated against this decision of the government at Maitighar in Kathmandu today. They have demanded the immediate repeal of the provision imposed on the border, saying that the government is conspiring to weaken Madhesh in the long term.
