Stakeholders have said that incidents of violence and trafficking against children and women are increasing in the border area. Stakeholders have said that there has been an increase in the number of children between the ages of 12 and 14 who are in love with Indian men and are going to India in risky ways.

On Monday, at a municipal-level coordination and collaboration meeting organized by the Adana Nepal Parsa branch in Birgunj with the support of Standard Chartered Bank, branch chief Manu Rana presented the progress of the organization and highlighted the existing challenges.

Similarly, it has been made public that teenage girls and women brought from various remote districts are being mobilized to spa centers and Indian girls are being forced into sex work in hotels and lodges in Birgunj. The number of Nepali girls going to the Raxaul region of India and getting involved in sex work is also increasing, and Indian girls and teenagers are also coming to Birgunj to get involved in sex work, Stakeholders have said.

According to Rana, the branch rescued and saved 245 girls from the border checkpoint in Birgunj in 2025. So far in 2026, 73 have been rescued and saved.

To minimize these problems, Adana Nepal, Parsa has been running safe housing, psychosocial counseling, legal aid, health care services, education referrals, skill development training and empowerment programs. Stakeholders participating in the seminar said that the increase in various types of violence at the community level has become a serious challenge.

The chief guest of the program, Deputy Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Imtiyaz Alam, said that coordination between all agencies is necessary to solve such problems. Keshar Bishwakarma, Project Manager of Adana Nepal, who is chairing the program, emphasized that the trends in women trafficking are also changing with the changing times, so the concerned agencies should be more serious and collaborate to minimize this problem.

Chief of the Education Division Anand Lamichhane, Chief of the Women and Children Division Rajanja Pandit, and Chief of Nursing of Narayani Hospital Ahema Thapa, among others, expressed their views at the program. They emphasized that joint initiatives against human trafficking and gender-based violence are indispensable as the problem of women trafficking is increasing despite various organizations making their own efforts in this area.
