Gauri Kumari Yadav, 54, a resident of Samsi Rural Municipality-Sangrampur in Mahottari district, has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives. Yadav, who contested from Mahottari Constituency No. 4 from the National Independent Party (NISP), has won the trust of the people and secured her seat in the federal parliament. She was elected by securing 30,132 votes.
Born in Mahottari, Yadav is the daughter of Ram Ekwal Rai Yadav and the wife of Shivaji Yadav. Having grown up in the local environment, she is closely familiar with the social structure, geographical conditions and life of her area. This experience has established her as a leader who understands local problems and finds solutions.
Academically, she has studied up to the certificate level in the Faculty of Science. She has made education and social awareness the basis of her public life. She has been continuously raising the issues of women empowerment, good governance and social reform and has now taken on the responsibility of raising these agendas at the policy level through Parliament.
Yadav's political journey is linked to a new political trend. She showed her activism by joining the National Independent Party with the slogan of alternative politics and transparency. Even when the party organization in the Madhesh region was still in the expansion phase, she built her identity through direct dialogue with the people, meetings and door-to-door campaigns.
Even though she had to compete with candidates from established and influential parties in the election field, she succeeded in winning the trust of the voters by basing her agenda on education, social awareness and change. The alternative perspective she presented as an educated female leader seems to have attracted the voters in particular.
With her victory in the House of Representatives, Yadav has been given the responsibility of fulfilling the expectations of the people of Mahottari-4. As the elected representative from Mahottari-4, Gauri Kumari Yadav is now establishing herself as a new political alternative and voice of reform, moving towards the federal parliament.
