Wife's plan to murder husband and mother-in-law

What you should know

It has been revealed that the husband and mother-in-law were murdered with sharp weapons on Wednesday midnight, as planned by the wife, in Rahariyadih village of Parwanipur Rural Municipality-1.

Manita's husband, 27-year-old Rameshwar Mahato Mandal, and his mother-in-law, 48-year-old Sumitra, were murdered on her own plan. After Manita was arrested from her home, the police's preliminary investigation revealed that both were murdered on her own plan. Both died on the spot.

Manita's unmarried 20-year-old Nanda Rina Kumari Mandal and her 54-year-old father-in-law Jagarup Mahato were seriously injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at Parwanipur LS Neuro Hospital. Police have also arrested 27-year-old Dharmendra Mahato of Banjariya village, Prasauni rural municipality-7, from Birgunj on charges of murder and have started an investigation.

Dharmendra had also returned home from foreign employment a few months ago. 'Initial investigation has revealed that Manita planned the murder with the help of some people, including her lover Dharmendra,' said Superintendent of Police Narendra Kunwar. 'A more detailed investigation is underway into the incident.' He said that further investigation is underway, including the background of the incident. 'We are still understanding the relationship between Manita and Dharmendra in depth,' he said. Dharmendra Manita is from a neighboring village of Maiti. Manita's home is Rahariadih and Maiti's village is Banjariya.

Manita's deceased mother-in-law Sumitra and father-in-law Jagarup have three daughters and a son. Two of the daughters are married and one daughter, Reena (injured), is unmarried and was at home. That same son, Rameshwor, and his mother-in-law Sumitra were murdered. Manita (arrested), who planned and had the murder, is the only daughter-in-law of the house. According to Manita's relative Bachiya, who was arrested, Manita has not been at home or at her mother's house since last Shrawan.

She had left her two daughters at home and been living in Kathmandu since last Shrawan. Later, after searching, she was brought home last Mangsher. Manita's husband had been in Malaysia for two years for employment and had returned home a year and a half ago and was planning to go abroad again when the lightning struck the house, she said. Bachiya is Manita's neighbor.

‘They entered the house through the garden and bamboo grove behind the house and were murdered,’ said Bachiya. ‘After the sharp weapons started hitting the house, the deceased Rameshwor’s 5-year-old nephew came screaming through the back door, through the garden, through the alley between the walls of the two houses, to the main road door of his house. According to him, when he went, the road door was closed and the back door was open. There was blood in the garden, toilet, and the kitchen.’

A woman’s hair and a bottle of alcohol were seen lying around the back door. ‘When I entered the house shouting, I saw that some were dead and some were injured. Nothing happened to Manita. Those who had come to kill her had already fled,’ she said. According to Bachiya, Manita had picked up her sleeping mother-in-law and opened the back door to defecate. That was when the incident occurred.

Police have stated that Manita’s mother-in-law was murdered in the garden behind the house and her husband was murdered inside the house. Manita, from a middle-class family, had a husband working in a sack factory. Her injured father-in-law was selling vegetables.
