Bank employee assault case: Four people including deputy chief still absconding

Four people, including Rita Kumari Chaudhary, the deputy mayor of Saptakoshi Municipality in Saptari, who inhumanly treated two employees of Jyoti Bikas Bank, are still at large.

On November 24, Deputy Manager (Debt Recovery Chief) of the bank's provincial office, Sumit Shrestha, and Debt Recovery Officer of Rupani Branch, Sabin Shrestha, had reached Saptakoshi Integrated Agro Farm Pvt. Ltd. in Odraha, the same municipality-7, to talk to the borrower. Deputy Mayor Chaudhary, who is also the wife of Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, a shareholder of the company, had beaten them with a garland of shoes and smeared them with moss.

After the video of the inhumane treatment and beating went viral on social media, Deputy Mayor Chaudhary's husband, Sanjeev Kumar, 52, and Umakanta Chaudhary, 47, of Agnisair Krishnasawaran Rural Municipality-1, were arrested on November 25 based on a complaint filed by the bank.

Both of them were produced in the Saptari District Court last Friday and were released on bail of Rs 25,000 each, said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle of the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur. "The other accused, including Deputy Chief Chaudhary, are absconding," he said, adding, "The search is underway." According to him, the Deputy Chief, his son Siraj Kumar, shareholders Prabhunarayan Chaudhary and Panchadev Chaudhary are absconding.
