Former Kalyanpur mayor Sah found guilty in corruption case

Rampukar Sah, the then mayor of Kalyanpur Municipality in Siraha, has been found guilty by a special court in a corruption case.

A joint bench of Special Court Judges Sudarshan Dev Bhatta, Hemant Rawal and Umesh Koirala found Sah guilty, informed court spokesperson Krishna Sharan Lamichhane.

According to Lamichhane, the court found Sah guilty and sentenced him to a fine of Rs 100,000 and six months imprisonment under Sub-section (b) of Section 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.

The CIAA team had arrested Sah from his office on Asad 32 while he was taking a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a service recipient. Sah had taken a bribe from a representative of the consumer committee while handing over a payment cheque for the completion of the drain construction project in Kalyanpur 6.

The CIAA had filed a corruption case against him in the Special Court on July 23, alleging that he had taken a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a service recipient.

The CIAA had also registered a corruption case against Jasodha Kumari, the chairperson of the Consumers' Committee, who was also the complainant, on November 26 for changing her statement in the same case. However, Jasodha has been acquitted.

Even though Jasodha gave a statement that was unfavorable, the court's verdict states that Jasodha will be acquitted as it has been established from various evidence in the case that Saha took bribes and committed corruption.
