Om Prakash Mandal, the chairman of Rajgadh Rural Municipality in Saptari, who is absconding on charges of murder, appeared in court on Wednesday. His statement, which was heard in the courtroom this morning, was completed in Bench No. 2 of Judge Romnath Adhikari.
The court's information officer Umesh Kumar Aryal said that the detention hearing is still ongoing.

While the arrest warrant was still in effect, Mandal was elected as the chairman from the CPN-UML in the local level elections on 30 Baisakh 2079. Almost 10 months after his election, District Court Judge Hemant Rawal adjourned the case on 14 Falgun 2079.
One of the accused, Ram Narayan Mandal of the then Belhi Chapena VDC-3 (currently Rajgarh-4), appeared in court on 2 Poush. The presidium also appeared after a single bench of court judge Mahendra Bahadur Thapa Chhetri ordered the release of Mandal on a bail of two hundred thousand rupees on 3 December. The other accused in the case, the then Belhi Chapena VDC chairperson Gangaram Mandal, Ramdev Sada Musahar of the same place, Manik Sharma, Bachcha Yadav alias Baukai, and Volichan Sada Musahar, are still absconding.
According to the charge sheet, there was a dispute when the presidium's father Gangaram refused to give the temple 11 bighas of paddy land.
