The police have taken into custody an assistant of the Area Administration Office and started an investigation on charges of forging government documents to obtain Nepali citizenship for an Indian citizen.
An investigation is underway on the suspicion that an office assistant working at the Area Administration Office, Ramgopalpur, in Mahottari, misused government documents to obtain citizenship for an Indian citizen.
The police have taken office assistant Krishna Mandal into custody on charges of misusing office documents, government seals, forged signatures and holograms to obtain Nepali citizenship for an Indian citizen.
Shailendra Kumar Bhatta, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahottari District Police, said that based on a special tip-off, the office assistant Mandal of the Area Administration, Ramgopalpur, is being arrested and investigated.
According to information received from the District Administration, Mahottari, the office assistant Mandal is being taken into custody and investigated. Another office assistant has absconded after Mandal was arrested.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Indradev Yadav said that the investigation was taken forward after an error was found in the citizenship cards distributed by the Area Administration, Ramgopalpur, in 2076. 'The Home Ministry received information to proceed with the investigation on Asoj 30, 2082,' said Pradya Yadav, 'The investigation into this matter had begun before I came to Mahottari. After I came, an office assistant was arrested and the investigation is underway.' He said that detailed details will be revealed only after the investigation is completed. According to the employees involved in the investigation, the Indians who obtained citizenship through forged documents from the area administration are abroad with Nepali passports. The employees said that it is understood that the area administration employees collected a large amount of money while issuing citizenship.'
