The Chamber of Commerce and Industry elections are being held today in Mirchaiya, Siraha. Voting is taking place at the community school located at Katari Chowk, Mirchaiya Municipality-6.

Three panels led by Bharat Mahaseth, Rajkumar Sah and Harikishore Mahato are in the election competition for the 15-member working committee of the association.

All three panels have arranged a banquet to impress voters in the election. All three panels have arranged a banquet by setting up tents around the polling station.

A volunteer who was serving food to voters said that both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was arranged at the banquet.

All three panels claim that food was arranged for some voters as they arrived early to vote. However, Sunil Mahato of Karjanha, who was met at the polling station, said that such a trend would further distort the election.

'In our country, there is a lot of distortion in the elections themselves, there is a widespread narrative that financially weak people cannot contest elections even if they are capable,' he said, 'This will further distort the election.'

Another voter, Ramesh Sah of Mirchaiya, said he was surprised to see the flamboyant activities being carried out by the candidates in the election. 'This is a businessman's election, they are more understanding than the general voters,' he said, 'but I was surprised to see such a feast.'

There are 2,109 voters in the election from Mirchaiya, Kalyanpur and Karjanha municipalities. The voting time is till 5 pm on Friday and if voting is not completed within this period, the time may be extended, said Election Officer Prashant Sah.
