Gen-G and businessmen staged a sit-in in front of the District Administration Office on Monday to demand the establishment of an Internal Revenue Office.

After the government decided to abolish the Taxpayer Service Office in Rajbiraj, they have been protesting by forming a struggle committee. After staging a two-hour sit-in in front of the District Administration Office on Sunday, they staged a three-hour sit-in on Monday and warned that they would shut down all local levels and offices here from Tuesday.

The committee's coordinator, Mohan Yadav, said that taxpayers were forced to protest because the government had decided to abolish the Taxpayer Service Office in Rajbiraj in a conspiratorial manner. 'There are more than 72,000 taxpayers here.' In 2081/082, 1 billion rupees in revenue was collected, but the service office was removed from here,' he said. 'If our demands are not met, we will protest more vigorously.'

Gen-G and businessmen held a press conference last Saturday and made the protest program public. Before that, they had been protesting under the leadership of the Saptari Chamber of Commerce and Industry from October 22 to 27 against the abolition of the service office and had submitted it to the Finance Minister through the Chief District Officer.

After the Internal Revenue Office, which was in its own building in Rajbiraj during the People's War, was moved to Lahan, the Taxpayer Service Office was established here in 2075 BS. However, after the latest government decided to abolish the service office as well, Gen-G and businessmen have been protesting.
