Congress MP Krishna Prasad Yadav has submitted his claim for the post of Chief Minister of Madhesh Province with the support of 77 MPs. He submitted his claim with the signatures of a majority of the provincial assembly members at the office of the provincial chief on Friday.
Three MPs are suspended from the 107-member Madhesh Provincial Assembly. Therefore, a majority of 53 out of the 104 members is required to form a government.
After Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav resigned last Wednesday, Provincial Chief Surendra Labh Karna had called for the formation of a new government. The seven-party alliance had agreed to make Krishna Prasad Yadav of the Nepali Congress the Chief Minister today.
Yadav has been supported by MPs from JSP, Janamat, LSP, Maoist, CPN-S and Nagarik Unmuktika. After his appointment as Chief Minister, the seven-party alliance is preparing to take a vote of confidence within a week. Leaders of all seven parties have signed the claim letter.
