7 parties are doing homework to form government in Madhesh, claims Congress and LSP

What you should know

Seven parties, including the Congress, are busy with homework to form a new government in Madhesh Province.

After the Supreme Court's order, Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav (Mahottari) resigned in the provincial assembly meeting on Wednesday, and the tug-of-war to form another government has begun in Madhesh.

JSP Nepal Chief Whip Ram Ashish Yadav informed that informal talks have begun between the seven parties to form a government in Madhesh province. 'Right now, we are holding discussions in separate small groups. This is an informal talk,' Yadav said, 'A formal meeting will be held in a few minutes.' According to JSP Nepal Whip Yadav, JSP Nepal is open to all options.

'JSP Nepal's stance remains towards strengthening federalism, strengthening the provinces and institutionalizing democracy. The Chief Minister position is not a big post for JSP,' Yadav said, 'No matter under whose leadership the government is formed among the seven parties, JSP Nepal will have the support and backing of JSP Nepal.'

As the largest party among the seven parties, the Congress has claimed that the government should be formed under its leadership. The Nepali Congress has nominated parliamentary party leader and provincial chairperson Krishna Prasad Yadav for the post of Chief Minister. Nepali Congress Chief Whip Kunwar Kant Jha said that party leader Yadav has been given the responsibility of holding talks and dialogue with all parties to form a government under the leadership of the Nepali Congress.

The Nepali Samaj Party has also claimed the post of Chief Minister. Nepali Samaj Party MP Upendra Mahato said that the previous government led by Nepali Samaj Party MP Jitendra Sonal lasted for a short period of time, so it is their position that the government should be formed under Sonal's leadership again.

On Wednesday evening, Provincial Chief Surendra Lav Karna had called for the formation of a new government in accordance with Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution of Nepal. The letter states that the provincial assembly members who can get a majority with the support of two or more parties have been called upon to submit their claims for the post of Chief Minister by 5 pm on Friday. Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, who is in the minority, had submitted his resignation to the provincial chief on Wednesday.
