The provincial chief has called for the formation of a new government in Madhesh Province. On Wednesday evening, provincial chief Surendra Labh Karna called for the formation of a new government in accordance with Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution of Nepal.

The letter states that the provincial assembly members who can secure a majority with the support of two or more parties have been invited to submit their claims for the post of Chief Minister by 5 pm on Friday. The provincial chief has called for the formation of a new government after Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, who is in the minority, submitted his resignation to the provincial chief on Wednesday.

Yadav was appointed under Article 168, Clause 3 of the Constitution of Nepal, after a writ was filed in the Supreme Court against his appointment, the Supreme Court had issued a mandate and ordered the Chief Minister to seek a vote of confidence within 24 hours and if he fails to do so, to call for the formation of a new government under Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution.

Preparations are underway for a meeting of seven parties to form a new government. The Congress, JSP, Janmat, CPN-Maoist Center, LSP, Unified Socialist Party and Civil Liberties Union have started preparations to form a government together. Congress parliamentary party leader Krishna Prasad Yadav has said that these parties are positive about forming a government under the leadership of the Congress.
