A 14-year-old girl from Saptari has said that she was raped by a 21-year-old youth from her village who lives in Birtamod as a laborer, who lured her to marry him.
She has accused the boy of raping her after being in a relationship with her for a year and promising to marry her. After receiving information about the incident from her daughter, the girl's father filed a complaint with the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Service Center of the District Police Office last Wednesday. But the police do not seem to have initiated a serious investigation into the incident.
The girl's father said that the accused young man had been in a relationship with her by tempting her to marry him. 'As the daughter told me, she said that she should bring a bribe of Rs 500 and bring the birth certificate and get married,' he said. 'After that, the boy has not been in contact with her.' The girl's father, who is illiterate and does simple agricultural work, does not seem to be aware of how justice will be served in this incident.
'Once we even sat in the village panchayat, but everyone there tried to pressure me to explain what happened,' the girl's father said, 'I don't agree, who will marry my daughter now. Those who spoil my daughter's life should be punished according to the law.' The girl's father complained that the Rampura Malhaniya police station sent the perpetrator and his father back, saying that they would bring them back on Sunday.
The ward chairman of the village where the girl lives said that he had not received information about the incident. He said, 'I also received information about those issues from social media, I am going to find out more.' DSP Dambar Bahadur Puri, spokesperson of the District Police Office, said that the girl's father had filed a complaint regarding the assault. 'He has filed a complaint regarding the assault,' he said, 'Further investigation is being done as per the complaint.'
