Police have fired six tear gas shells and two rounds in the air after protests in Simara, Bara, erupted after people defied the curfew. Armed forces and Nepal Police have been deployed extensively in Simara.
DSP Ved Prakash Joshi, chief of the Area Police Office, Simara, said that half a dozen policemen were injured, including himself. On the other hand, two people were injured in the police lathi charge on the protesters, said Samrat Upadhyay, coordinator of Gen-G.
The protests are still continuing in violation of the curfew.
Tension has been rising in Simara since this morning over the clash that took place on Wednesday. A curfew has been imposed from 1 pm after Gen-G started inciting the protests.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Chhabiraman Bhattarai, a curfew has been imposed on Thursday from 12:45 pm to 8 pm. There is a curfew on the right and left sides of the highway from Pathlaiya to Lalka Pul in South Jitpur and 500 meters around the airport area.
Six members of the Genji group were injured in a clash between Genji and UML workers on Wednesday.
