Madhesh Pradesh Chief Minister Jitendra Prasad Sonar (Sonal) is set to take oath after Chhath.
The ruling coalition parties met on Friday and agreed to distribute the ministries after Chhath after a vote of confidence. Maoist Center parliamentary party leader Yubaraj Bhattarai informed that it has been agreed that the Chief Minister will take a vote of confidence after Chhath and then distribute the ministries. According to him, the date for this will be finalized after consultation with Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal.
‘It has been agreed to expand the cabinet as soon as possible after a vote of confidence,’ he said, ‘The exact date has not been finalized yet. The ministries will be distributed after receiving the vote of confidence.’
Before the formation of the government, there was an informal agreement that Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal would take four ministries, Janmat Party four, and Maoist Center, Unified Socialist Party and Democratic Socialist Party (LOSP) Nepal would take two each.
Sonal has become the Chief Minister with the support of 56 members of the Provincial Assembly from five parties. He was appointed to the post of Chief Minister with the support of 19 MPs from JSP Nepal, 9 from Maoist, 7 from Unified Socialist Party, 8 from LOSP and 13 from Janmat Party. However, before Sonal took oath as Chief Minister, 2 MPs of Janmat Party had left the party and opted for Janaswaraj, while 1 MP from JSP was suspended.
There are currently 104 members of the 107-member Madhesh Provincial Assembly. Out of the 3 members of the Provincial Assembly, Abhiram Sharma of LOSPA, 1 each from UML and JSP Nepal have been suspended from the Provincial Assembly.
Sonal was appointed as Chief Minister on Asoj 29, in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, after the resignation of Satish Kumar Singh, who was the Chief Minister from Janmat Party. The day after his appointment, Sonal took oath as Chief Minister, and Janmat Party Parliamentary Party Leader Mahesh Prasad Yadav and CPN-S Chief Whip Kanish Patel took oath as Ministers without portfolio.
