Earlier, on June 29, the CIAA had taken him into custody and proceeded with the investigation, and the Provincial Assembly had suspended him as per the CIAA letter. However, on Bhadra 13, the Madhes Provincial Assembly Secretariat had issued a notice and lifted Singh's suspension.
As per the Commission's decision on June 13, it was mentioned in the notice that the suspension was lifted as Provincial Assembly member Singh had been released on bail, was not currently in custody or detention, and had not been charged with corruption in the court.
Singh was elected from Mahottari Constituency No. 4(2). It has been revealed from the CIAA investigation that Singh had deposited the bribe money in his own account by forming various consumer committees and transferring it to the account of Private Secretary Binod Lal Kayastha. The CIAA has filed a charge sheet against him for the same charge.
Singh's suspension is expected to pose some difficulties in the vote of confidence for the newly appointed Chief Minister of Madhesh Pradesh, Jitendra Prasad Sonar (Sonal). Son, who was appointed Chief Minister with the support of 56 MPs, is likely to lose the votes of two MPs who chose Janaswaraj after being left out of the public vote and three MPs after Singh's suspension.
The Madhesh Pradesh Assembly has 107 members. Three of them have already been suspended. Earlier, CPN-UML provincial assembly members Dipendra Thakur and Abhiram Sharma have also been suspended.
