Due to continuous rain, the risk of flash floods has increased in Sunsari. According to the District Police Office, around 1,36 houses were flooded in Sunsari today due to floods.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Yograj Khatiwada, spokesperson of the office, said that due to the rains, the riverbeds rose and flooded the settlements in various towns and rural municipality areas of the district. He also informed that people have been temporarily moved to safe places from most of the flooded houses.
About 300 houses in Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-5, 160 houses in Barahkshetra Municipality-8 and more than 300 houses in Jalpapur area of Inaruwa Municipality-10 are reported to have been flooded.
Similarly, some houses in the settlements of Inruwa-4, 8, 9 and 10, Ramdhuni-6, 7 and Itahari sub-metropolitan-5 have also been flooded. Spokesman Khatiwada said, 'Most of the Sukumvasi settlements have been flooded, but they have not been completely displaced. Security agencies are constantly monitoring.'
Janoddaya Basic School located in Inaruwa-4 and Cardio Neuro Hospital located in Bhokraha have also been affected due to floods. Spokesman Khatiwada informed that after the hospital premises were flooded, the doctor was brought inside the hospital by boat with the help of the armed police force.
45-year-old Navraj Urao was washed away by the Dobhan river located in Barahkshetra Municipality-8. According to the District Police Office, the search for him is continuing. Teams of Nepal Police, Armed Police, local level and other agencies are active in rescue and relief work in the affected areas. Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra informed that the work of moving the flood-affected families to a safe place, distributing relief and taking precautions to prevent further damage is going on.
Meanwhile, Dharan-Bhedetar road section located in Dharan sub-metropolitan city-13 has been removed and the road has been put into operation.
