Basant Kushwaha, Industry Minister of the Madhesh state government, has stated that the state government is preparing a 1,000 megawatt solar power project. He said this in a discussion with stakeholders including industrialists/businessmen here about the preparations for the investment conference that the Madhesh state government is going to hold in the second week of January.

"The provincial government is preparing for a 1,000 megawatt solar power project, even though it is located at the foot of the Chure mountain near the Kamala river," he said, "for this, it is also thought to raise investment from the investment conference." "More investment is needed to produce DAP fertilizer," he said, "Even if only urea fertilizer is produced at the moment, investment can also be raised to produce fertilizer industry in Madhesh province." He said that investments can also be raised in the fields of education, tourism, logistics, seed production, organic fertilizer production etc. 

Ashok Temani, president of the Madhesh Province of the Federation of Nepalese Industries and Commerce, suggested that the Simra Airport and the roads connected to it need to be upgraded before the investment conference. He said that Birgunj should also be declared the economic capital of Nepal before the conference. 

He said that foreign investment can come in the solar energy sector in Madhesh, but solar projects should be guaranteed security. He opined that it would be appropriate to invest in agriculture, chemical fertilizers and motor parts in Madhesh. 

Ashok Kumar Vaidya, the former president of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the complications in the three-level tax system should be removed before foreign investment enters, and the license for industrial operations should be given through a one-door system. 

He suggested that we should start homework to bring in Indian tourists by forming a joint tourism board of Madhesh with the government of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh of India. He suggested that Birgunj should be declared as economic capital and Janakpur as religious capital.

Hari Gautam, president of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized that before the investment conference in Madhesh, there should be a private sector friendly investment law. He also said that a 10-year economic policy should be made for the economic development of Madhesh.
