21-year-old Deepakumari Yadav, who was married two months ago, died suspiciously in Mahadeva rural municipality-1 Sonara tol of Saptari. For two months, her husband, 25-year-old Deepak Kumar Yadav, and her father-in-law, Parshuram Yadav, were abusing her and pressuring her to bring more dowry.

Last time on Friday, Deepak called Deepa's sister-in-law Sujitha of Dakneshwari Municipality-4 Bhuthi and threatened to marry Deepa and asked her to take her away. However, Sujitha said that no one picked up the phone even after returning the phone several times till late at night.

On Saturday, when she called the village next to Sonra tol, she said that after getting to know that there was a fight in their house after the marriage, when she was about to leave for Sonra, she came to know that Deepa was brought to the hospital. Deepak, along with her husband Deepak and father-in-law Parshuram, brought Deepa to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital Rajviraj on Saturday as she was ill. However, the Acting Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Dilip Kumar Sah, said that he died before being brought to the hospital.

Deepa's body has been kept in the hospital's mortuary, and her family has filed a complaint with the police saying that Deepa was murdered. "When we got married on June 4, we gave as much dowry as we could, but even after the marriage, Deepak's elder father, Bhagwati Prasad Yadav, said, "Brother Sanjiv had spent 25 lakh rupees by working abroad at that time, and was not in a position to give more dowry." "If Deepa fell ill, she would have informed us, on the contrary, she did not pick up even when we called again and again," he said, "We want justice, I appeal to everyone to help for justice."

Saptari police spokesperson DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet said that the incident was suspicious and the deceased's husband and father-in-law were taken into custody for investigation. "Nildam was also seen on the neck and initially they did not inform the police or Deepa's family," he said, "Preparations are being made to send the body to VP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for post-mortem."
