After continuous rains for the last one week, paddy planting has increased in Madhes province. According to the Agriculture Directorate of Madhes Province, 72 percent of paddy planting has been completed by Friday after sufficient water.

The directorate estimates that the production will decrease by 20 percent due to late rains this year and relatively poor planting of paddy.

'Due to the lack of irrigation and sky water, paddy planting in Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sirha, Saptari and Rautahat was less than last year, now it has increased again after the rains,' the directorate  Senior Horticulture Officer Pradeep Yadav said.

According to him, paddy planting has reached 100 percent in Bara and Parsa. Information Officer of Narayani Irrigation Management Office (Gandak) Suresh Sah said that regular monitoring is being done to provide water from the canal to the farmers of Bara and Parsa.

Meanwhile, since Madhes has been declared a drought-prone area, the office of the Krishi Gyan Kendra here has started the process of distributing sallow tubes to farmers for farming purposes. According to the directorate, paddy cultivation is done in a total area of 372 thousand 645 hectares in Madhes province.
