More than one million liters of water has been supplied daily in Birgunj Metropolitan City, which is facing an extreme shortage of drinking water.

After the deep well (boring) was put into operation this week from the pump station of the Birganj branch of the Nepal Water Corporation Birganj branch, there is an additional arrangement of about two million liters of water in the metropolis. According to Sanjiv Yadav, Engineer and Information Officer of the branch, 2 million liters of water is being received daily from the deep well which has been put into operation recently.

'Earlier, the branch was distributing 80 million liters of water daily, after the new boring came into operation, we are distributing only 10 million liters of water daily from the water tap,' he said, '3000 liters of water per minute is being received from the newly added deep well.'

Engineer Yadav said that the demand for water in the tank has been gradually decreasing since last week. "Until a week ago, only two tankers of the branch were distributing 50,000 liters of water daily to different wards of the metropolis," he said. He said that all the tankers are distributing five lakh liters of water.

The chief district officer of Parsa, Ganesh Aryal, also said that the demand for tanker water has decreased in the metropolis. He said that the Nepali Army, which is facilitating the distribution of water, has also informed that the demand for tanker water has decreased.

Currently, organizations including UNICEF and Volunteer Crops Nepal are collaborating with the District Disaster Management Committee to install tanks in the affected areas, he said. He said that the work of searching for alternative arrangements for drinking water and then irrigation in the municipality where there is a water crisis in the district has also been intensified.
