Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has said that the state government will mobilize its resources to solve the problem of water supply and drought-affected areas in Madhesh province due to drought. He has requested donor agencies for assistance.

In a meeting with concerned ministries and donor agencies at the Madhesh Government Secretariat in Janakpur on Tuesday, Chief Minister Singh said that collective efforts of all are necessary to solve the existing problems of drought and drinking water. Awadhesh Jha, press adviser to Chief Minister Singh, informed that immediate and long-term measures that can be taken by the state government and donor agencies have been consulted.

"The Chief Minister has asked the citizens to act in such a way that they feel immediate relief," said Jha, the press consultant, "He wants to start what can be done immediately, not just meetings and decisions."

"If paddy planting cannot be done due to drought, it will lead to food crisis in the future," said Chief Minister Singh, "proceed the work keeping in mind the possible danger". Let's start working now. If there is a problem, tell me.

He said that necessary discussions are being held with the federal government to solve the drought and water supply problems.

Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Janardan Singh Chhetri, Home, Communications and Law Minister Rajkumar Lekhi and Energy, Irrigation and Drinking Water Minister Shesh Narayan Yadav were present in the meeting.

The Madhesh Province cabinet meeting held on Thursday declared the province drought-stricken. After heavy rains in some places, floods and landslides have caused destruction, but there has not been any significant rain in Madhesh.
