The National Innovation Center has researched and developed 16 types of agricultural tools in 32 months after assuming responsibility for the operation and management of the agricultural implement factory in Birganj.

Ritesh Dev, head and engineer of Birganj Agricultural Tools Factory, informed that 16 types of agricultural tools have been researched and developed in the factory so far. "The center is currently researching and developing agricultural tools needed for Nepal", he said, "so far we have researched and developed 16 types of tools from small to big." Cultivator, hand press machine, plastic spreader, banana fiber extraction, dung reaper, millet planting machine, field cutter, hand tool ax, hoes, small spades, and other agricultural tools used for household purposes have been prepared.

'Through the center, the factory is currently in the research and development stage, so it is not possible to produce it commercially on a large scale. Although normal tools are being sold and distributed', he said, 'Some well-wishers come here and sometimes buy agricultural tools produced here. Dev, the head of the

factory, informed that the center has made the production of tools easier and simpler by spending 50 lakh rupees some time ago and bringing a CNC machine. CNC machines are making it much easier to work than new tool production. It has been providing ease and comfort to the engineers and other technical staff working here.

Currently, there are 36 employees in the agricultural implement factory Birganj. "Agricultural implements factory also belongs to the state, it is necessary for the state to pay attention to its research and development", he said, "If all kinds of tools that are essential for the country's farmers can be made from this factory, the people would benefit a lot." Dev, the head of the factory, has demanded that all three levels of government are on the eve of budget formulation, to arrange customs exemptions for the iron raw materials required for the agricultural implements factory.

'Only one percent customs duty is charged on ready-made agricultural tools. But at least 20 percent of raw materials including iron are required for the manufacture of tools," he said. This is also causing a lot of problems in the production.

Chief Dev asked for concessions or discounts on the raw materials needed for the agricultural implement factory because there is a high tax rate on the import of raw iron needed for agriculture.

With the financial and technical support of the then Soviet Union, an agricultural implement factory at Birgunj was brought into operation. The factory was commissioned on February 28, 2024. In the initial stage, the factory was producing agricultural tools and exporting them not only to the country, but also to foreign countries. But due to the deficiencies in the factory management, the factory finally came to a state of closure by 2059.

Agriculture and Livestock Minister Ramnath Adhikari informed that he is facilitating the necessary support for the agricultural implement factory. He said, "After I took over as the Minister of Agriculture  On-site observation and information of the factory  . I am ready to provide the necessary support to make the factory more professional by strengthening it.

Center continues its efforts to revive the
