Police, Customs and Internal Revenue raided a godown where smuggled goods were stored in Siraha's Golbazar on Thursday evening. During a joint raid by the Nepal Police, Armed Police, Customs Office and Internal Revenue Office at Maa Dhamini Dairy Industry in Golbazar, goods worth one lakh including powdered milk and sugar brought from India were found in the godown.
While raiding the godown, a group including Golbazar Trade Association President Vijay Shah also tried to riot. There was also a possibility of conflict and the team came back after sealing the godown as it was late at night. They also reached the warehouse on Friday. However, the team that sealed the warehouse on Thursday night gave immunity on Friday.
Toyanath Sapkota, Head of Customs Office, Mader, claimed that the goods found in the warehouse were found to be legitimate. He claims that the warehouse owner showed the receipts and declarations with taxes of all goods to the team that arrived on Friday. However, on Thursday night, they could not show the documents confirming the validity of those goods.
"Our team came back at night, today they showed everyone's notification letter and receipt with tax," he said to Kantipur, "What should we do after finding all the goods, the information is wrong, the work has been done by digging the mountain to remove the leak."
The source who informed the police about the smuggler's godown said that it was the work of all agencies to free the smuggler gang overnight. He alleged that the team came to the godown about two hours after he gave the information and during that time the smuggler moved the goods to another place. "The team came almost two hours after I gave the notice, during that time, many items were moved elsewhere," he said, "and whatever items were seized, they would have shown the documents at night, but they have created fake documents overnight to give immunity." Sources say that they have been brought to cities including Kathmandu.
