A corruption case has been filed against the newly appointed chairman of the media council under the Madhesh state government, Baraka Kamal Kumar Upadhyay.

The Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission, Tangal, filed a corruption case against him and three people on Tuesday. On Monday only, Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to him. The Authority has filed a case against Upadhyay, the then Acting Chief Administrative Officer of Bara Pachrauta Municipality, Shyam Prasad Yadav and Accountant Hasim Mian Ansari with a sum of Rs 352,560.

They are accused of evading the public procurement act in the tender advertisement made by the municipality. According to the Public Procurement Act, there is a provision that the notice of the invitation to tender should be published in a national level daily newspaper. However, it is stated in the statement issued by the authority that KS Multipurpose Pvt Ltd, of which Upadhyay is the chairman, has published only one copy of the tender notice in Prabhav Dainik newspaper.  After it was confirmed that the

payment had been made, the authority has demanded that the three persons be imprisoned as per subsection (1) of section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, as per (e) of section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059. Rajkumar Lekhi, Minister of Home Affairs and Communications of Madhesh Province, said that he had recently received information on the matter and was discussing it.
