Madhesh Literature Festival: Nagbeli Struggle of Samathar Madhesh

Speakers have alleged that the Madhesh party and its leaders, which were founded on the foundation of the Madhesh movement, are getting stuck in the quagmire of power loss and are moving away from the agenda of Madhesh and Madheshi. Although many demands of Madhesh and Madheshi have been fulfilled, they also pointed out the inevitability of another strong movement in Madhesh to end the differences between Dalits, Muslims and backward classes.

The first session of the second day of the Madhesh Literature Festival in Birganj will be held on the same topic. As it went on, the heat of March made the atmosphere even hotter.

The session titled 'Samthar Madheshka Nagbeli Sangharsh' was facilitated by journalist Madhuri Mahato. The speakers of this session were Tulanarayan Sah, Bijaykant Karna, Rakesh Mishra and Bhola Paswan. From the background of the Madhesh movement, they had a serious debate on the Madhesh Party and its leaders.

Sah alleged that Dalits, Muslims and backward classes were all together in the Madhesh movement, but these groups were isolated when the movement achieved its achievements. He said, "Whoever started a movement for Madhesh, he will be indifferent to Madhesh."

Sah said that it should be a matter of debate among the leaders of the Madhesh party that they are actively active about the differences within the Madhesh. Sah said that the Madhesh party and its leaders have a serious question as to how the Madhesh movement can be made into a national movement.

He said that caste discrimination is still a challenge in Madhesh province, which is limited to eight districts. Karna alleged that the Madhesh leaders have been fragmented until now due to their boundless desire to gain power.

"The word Madhesh has now disappeared from the name of the parties called Madhesh," he said, "The leaders of the Madhesh party must give a commitment that we will not come to power until the issue of Madhesh is completed." He also claimed that India did not support the blockade during the Madhesh movement. He accused India of only betraying Madhesh in the said movement.

He suggested that Dalits should continue to struggle for their rights. Dalit rights activist Bhola Paswan alleged that the Madhesh party has not yet carried the agenda of Dalits. "Should the Dalits of Madhesh fight against caste discrimination and untouchability?" he said, "Even within the Dalits, the majority of Mushars still have to live uncivilized without getting citizenship."

He complained that no government has taken any initiative to end this situation. Four literary works were released before the session began. The festival ends on Saturday.
