Death case in rehabilitation center: Director released on bail, 6 people jailed

In the death case of Dhirendra named Pradiprasad Mandal, who died of beating at Navajanm Rehabilitation Center (Sudhar) in Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-1 Bank Road, the owner of the center has been released on bail, while six others have been sent to jail.

District court Baraka   No. 1 Judge Komal Prasad Acharya on Tuesday  6 out of 7 people arrested in Mandal's death case have been remanded to prison. 

29-year-old Tamanna Mansur, a member of the family that runs the rehabilitation center, was released on a bond of 250,000. Gave. He said that he was released on bail as he had demanded imprisonment up to 3 years under a separate crime of concealing evidence.

Sahebbabu Mansur, Tamanna's brother (the family that runs the center) is absconding. Along with Sahebbabu, there is a case against one other person as well, both of them are absconding. A prison sentence of up to 20 years has been demanded against the other 6 accused.

According to him, 24-year-old Arun Sarraf of Kalaiya sub-metropolis-1, 19-year-old Sagar Gupta, 21-year-old Parameshwar Sah of Ward 2, 19-year-old Sarfaraz Mansuri of 3, 22-year-old Niraj Sarraf of Ward 4 and Ward no. 6, 20-year-old Muhammed Angi Mian has been sent to prison for pre-trial detention.

Less than two weeks after he was admitted to the correctional center, 37-year-old Dhirendra of Kalaiya-9, Pradiprasad Mandal, died when he was beaten up by the counselors of the center when he did not accept corporal punishment. The CCTV footage of Pradeep being beaten up went viral when he refused to do so when he tried to punish him for violating discipline. The reform center was registered in Kathmandu and expanded as a branch.

Achyut Prasad Mainali, Member of Parliament of Bara Constituency-1, raised a voice in the Federal Parliament about the condition of monitoring and regulation of the correctional center and in the district, strict action was taken by arresting the director of the center. According to Ratna Syangtan, Head of the District Administration Office Administration Branch, there are 8 correctional centers in operation in the district, but 1 registered and 7 other branches have been expanded and operated. There are 8 in operation, 3/3 in Kalaiya and Jitpursimra sub-metropolitan areas and 2 in Nijgarh municipality. 

After the voice was raised in the parliament, the local administration and the police have tightened the regulation and monitoring of correctional centers under the instructions of the government. Assistant Chief District Officer Chhabiraman Bhattarai said, "After monitoring, the Ministry of Home Affairs has been informed." From there, further procedures will be regulated after instructions.

According to him, there are many shortcomings in the operation of the correctional center. He said, "The purpose of the reformation center is to do charity, to improve the broken." But commercialization has taken place. He said that some correctional centers have not met the standards.
