Chief Minister Singh instructs security officials to stop illegal import of poultry products

Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Satish Kumar Singh, has directed the high-ranking security officials of the province to stop the illegal entry of poultry products through open borders.

Chief of Madhesh Police Office and Deputy Inspector General of Police Lalmani Acharya and Chief of Armed Police Force Madhesh Province Chinnamasta Bahini No. 2 Headquarters and Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Kalidas Dhauvji have instructed on Wednesday to control the movement of eggs, chicks, prepared chicken, chicken meat, crates, cartons and vaccines illegally entering through various checkpoints.

Nepal's poultry industry is facing crisis due to the illegal import of poultry products from India and since there is a high risk of bird flu entering different provinces of India, the illegal import of poultry products should be controlled, the Nepal Layers Poultry Breeders' Association drew the attention of Chief Minister Singh on Wednesday.

Meeting at the chief minister's residence at Madhesh Bhavan in Janakpurdham, the poultry businessmen demanded that the illegal import of poultry products be stopped for the protection and promotion of the poultry sector, which accounts for three percent of the country's total domestic product and directly and indirectly employs five lakh people.

Chief Minister Singh said that people with small capital are involved in the open sale and distribution of poultry products, so there should be control efforts with awareness programs. He directed the security officers to stop the illegal import of poultry products in a planned manner and said that the police should be mobilized by identifying the points and areas where such products are illegally imported. 

He pointed out that a campaign should be started to stop the illegal import of poultry products and stakeholders should take the lead along with the poultry businessmen of Nepal. Chief of Madhesh Police Office and Inspector General of Police Lalmani Acharya informed that in the first phase awareness campaign will be conducted to prevent illegal import of poultry products and in the second phase such items will be controlled and destroyed according to the law.

Chief of Armed Police Force Madhesh Province Chinnamasta Bahini No. 2 Headquarters and Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Dhowaji said that security agencies including the armed police stationed at the border area are continuously working to control the illegal entry of poultry products from various checkpoints and said that they will intensify their work from now on.

According to the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association, there is an investment of 1 trillion 60 billion in the poultry business of Nepal. Union President Vinod Pokharel said that they had come to Janakpurdham, the provincial capital, to request Chief Minister Singh to stop the illegal import of poultry products, inspired by Chief Minister Singh's campaign against illegal hospitals to improve the health sector.
