Maiti Nepal, an organization working in the field of human trafficking control, has rescued 171 women who were going to India in 2024.
Maiti Nepal Birgunj Periodical Home held a press conference on Thursday and released the data of its annual work progress. It said that 171 women have been rescued from Nepal-India border area in Birgunj in one year.
Home supervisor Goma Paudel said that during the period of one year, the home's border watchers managed to stop 171 people from the Nepal-India border area at Birganj when they were about to go to India at risk.
"Out of 171 people over the age of 20, 39 were sent back to their homes," said Paudel, "the rest 132 were brought to a temporary home and entrusted to their parents." They were in the age group above 19 years.
This year, a total of 265 people have been protected in the temporary home, of which 127 are below 18 years of age and 138 are above 19 years of age. Among them, 119 were found by the police and other organizations to be in a dangerous situation and assigned to the temporary home of Maiti Nepal.
This year, out of 132 rescued from the border and given protection in temporary homes, 13 are from Koshi Province, 45 from Madhesh Province, 42 from Bagmati Province, 9/9 from Gandaki and Lumbini Province, 2 from Karnali Province and 12 from Sudurpaschim. Among them are 31 Brahmins/Kshetris, 50 tribals, 11 Dalits, 9 Muslims and 31 non-castes.
