5 people, including the then mayor of Karjanha municipality of Siraha, Ganga Pasman, have been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of 43 lakh 20 thousand rupees. In the corruption case, former mayor Pasman along with two administrative officers, an accountant and a contractor were sentenced by a special court on Monday.
Along with former mayor Paswan, the then Acting Chief Administrative Officer Jagdish Mandal, the then Acting Chief Administrative Officer Wise Danuwar, accountant Praveen Kumar Mahato and construction businessman Vaijnath Yadav were imprisoned for corruption for one and a half years and were fined 21 lakh 60 thousand rupees and the same amount was fined 43 lakh 20 thousand. The decision to pay the amount according to the rate is of the special court.
The Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission filed a corruption case against the five people on March 14 last year, accusing them of irregularity in the construction of the administrative building of the municipality. The authority claimed that they had committed an irregularity of Rs 1 crore 8 lakh in the name of construction of the said building.
The bench of Judges Khusi Prasad Tharu, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Muraribabu Shrestha held a hearing on the same case on November 28 and found them guilty.
