Locals are terrified when tigers and wild elephants simultaneously created terror in Thori rural municipality. Chiranjeevi Sapkota of Thori-1 says that elephant terror is prevalent in all the wards of this municipality, which is surrounded by Chitwan and Parsa national parks and Balmiki Tiger Reserve of India.
He said that elephants come to eat the paddy when the farmer's rice crop starts ripening. "Elephants coming from Nikunjas have been causing terror in all 5 wards of the municipality for the last 2 weeks," he said, "In the last few days, elephants have caused more trouble in Ward No. 2 Ichchanagar and Buddhanagar and Ward No. 3 Brahmanagar." He said that
elephants come in herds in numbers of 6 to 7, 8 to 12 and 20 to 25. Some elephants come alone and destroy rice crops. He said that the locals have no other way except the traditional method of driving away the elephants.
Similarly, for almost 2 months, tigers have created terror in Ward No. 1 Ichchanagar and Chautara, Ward No. 3 Bramhanagar and Ward No. 5 Suvarnapur. 2 to 3 tigers have entered the human settlements near Nikunj across the municipality and are eating the quadrupeds of the locals.
Sete Gole of Ward No. 3 Bramhanagar said that a tiger ate 2 tigers from his cage at 10 pm on Wednesday. Tigers have eaten more than a dozen Khashi goats including those of other locals.
Local Ram Bahadur Ale Magar said that many locals have seen tigers on the road near Shikaribas bridge of Hulaki road section. He said that tigers attack motorcyclists and even tempo drivers.
The area around the bridge is the confluence of Chitwan and Parsa Nikunj and India's Balmiki Tiger Reserve and the Shikaribas River is also a traditional biological route for wildlife, so there is more movement of wildlife in that area.
Rakhesh Ale Magar, Secretary of the Shikaribas Intermediate Community Forest Consumer Committee, said that the tiger had eaten the goats of some of the locals and left the khornai empty. He also informed the committee to compensate for the tiger terror and the damage caused by the tiger.
