Shalikram Ghimire of Rupandehi has been elected as the Lumbini Province President of the National Independent Party. He is the outgoing Vice President. There were six candidates for the post of President in the convention that began on Saturday in Ghorahi, Dang. Shalikram Ghimire had received 199 votes in the first round of elections.

Gopal Ghimire, who came second in the competition, received 87 votes. The constitution of the Nepali Congress Party stipulates that a candidate for the post of President must receive 51 percent of the votes. Shalikram, who received the most votes in the first round, was declared the President without holding a second round of elections after Gopal, who received the second vote, supported Shalikram.

According to Chief Election Officer Gokul Sapkota, 552 votes were cast in the election. Accordingly, although the statute stipulates that a candidate must receive 277 votes to be elected, he said that there was no need to go to the second round of elections as the second contestant supported the first contestant with the consent of the first and second contestants.

‘The candidate who received the second most votes in the first round of voting has supported the candidate who received the most votes,’ he said, ‘Even so, it was not necessary to go to the second round of elections, the candidate who received the most votes was elected president.’

In the first round of elections, other candidates for the post of president were Ganesh Poudel of Rupandehi with 84 votes, Dr. Rajkumar Subedi of Banke with 80 votes, Manju Bhusal of Rupandehi with 71 votes, and Madhu Prasad Aryal of Rupandehi with the lowest number of votes, with 19 votes. Ghimire, who received the most votes, is the outgoing vice president of the province. He had been a provincial member and treasurer in the party since its inception and became vice president.

Similarly, Gopal Ghimire is a member of the central department. Among the competitors, Shalikram has filed his candidacy from the party of President Ravi and Gopal from the party of senior leader Balendra, according to the cadres of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Similarly, Ganesh Poudel and Rajkumar Subedi, who received third place votes, are from the party of Ravi. Along with Gopal, Manju Bhusal, who is a member of the House of Representatives from Rupandehi, and Madhu Aryal, who is an advisor to Physical Infrastructure Minister Sunil Lamsal, are from the party of Balendra.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Rupandehi President Dr. Buddhi Prasad Sharma said that Shalikram Ghimire, who got twice as many votes as his competitor by not voting in the second round of the Lumbini Province President's post, was elected president with the support of Gopal Ghimire, who received the second competitor's votes.

‘Now efforts are underway to get the deputy chairman, general secretary and two joint general secretaries to agree,’ he said, ‘If there is no consensus, the decision will be decided by the election itself on Sunday.’ The Lumbini provincial convention of the RSWAP is continuing in Ghorahi, Dang, from Saturday.
