Schools in Kohalpur Municipality, Banke have been closed for three days from today due to the rising heat. After the extreme heat in the Terai districts including Banke in the last few days, Kohalpur Municipality has decided to give holidays to institutional and community schools of the municipality, said Education and Sports Branch Chief Ravilal Mijar.

'If the heat subsides due to rain, there will be only three days of holiday, otherwise there may be two more days of holiday,' he said. The municipality had taken the decision saying that high temperatures and hot air could adversely affect the health of students.

Kohalpur Municipality Education and Sports Branch Chief Mijar said that regular teaching and learning has been suspended in 33 community and 50 institutional schools operating within the city for three days from Jestha 25 to 27.

He said that the holiday was given priority to the safety of students as the weather conditions are not likely to improve immediately and the temperature is continuously rising. According to the Hydrology and Meteorology Office, Kohalpur, the maximum temperature there today is 39.4 degrees Celsius.

Ram Prasad Awasthi, Senior Divisional Hydrologist of the office, informed that the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.2 in Nepalgunj and 38.8 in Khajura.
