A joint meeting of the people's representatives of Triveni Rural Municipality of Rolpa in Lumbini Province and Salyan Kapurkot Rural Municipality of Karnali Province has agreed to partner in the development plan.
The joint executive meeting held at Nigalpani Lake on the border of Rolpa and Salyan expressed common interest in the development of the settlements and market areas on the border and agreed to coordinate and partner between both districts and the province to formulate a development plan.
It has also been decided to partner in the development of several settlements and villages in Salyan in Kapurkot Rural Municipality, which are connected to Zhenam, Nigalpani and Koila in Triveni Rural Municipality of Rolpa, said Triveni Rural Municipality Chairman Karna Bahadur Bathamagar.
It has been decided to jointly seek budget from the federal and provincial governments to blacktop the Kapurkot-Khali-Nigalpani road, which is the main route to enter Rolpa, which is in a very dilapidated condition. In addition, it has been agreed to set up a maintenance fund by collecting the money received from local limestone mines and cement industries and to immediately repair and make the road safe. He said that the joint executive meeting was organized to express interest in common issues, plans, and common culture and development and protection of the border area. Presenting the agenda of the meeting, Kuparkot Rural Municipality Chairman Durga Pun put forward a plan to quickly blacktop the Kapurkot-Nigalpani-Koila and Jinabang Jhyam road project, which will reach the villages of inner Rolpa and Salyan via Kupurkot Bazaar. He expressed his commitment to reach out to both the provincial governments and the federal government through common interest and coordination. The vice-chairmen of Triveni and Kapurkot, Lekhmani Dangi and Prakash Bhandari, respectively, presented the progress made in their respective areas and discussed the potential and prospects. Vegetable crops are cultivated extensively in both these areas. In the Simpani, Nigalpani and Holeri areas of Rolpa, there is a high production of vegetable crops and market markets are operated.
The vegetables here are taken to the market markets in Kapurkot and to Dang, Banke and Butwal. Vegetables and fruits are also cultivated in Kapurkot and other areas of Salyan. Since both municipalities are the main producers of vegetables and livestock, it has been decided to emphasize pesticide-free organic production and jointly operate technical assistance and marketing programs by allocating budgets from the coming fiscal year.
Similarly, it has been decided to mobilize security agencies in both districts to control possible drug and arms trafficking and increase surveillance in the border areas. Chief District Officer of Salyan Mahendra Kumar Sapkota and Assistant Chief District Officer of Rolpa Ghanshyam Gautam, who were present in the meeting, spoke about the role of the Border Security and Local Administration Office.
It has been agreed to formulate a tourism and joint investment plan to attract tourists and develop the local area in both districts. Both municipalities have decided to jointly allocate a budget of Rs 5.5 lakh in the coming year to develop Siddha Cave, located on the border of Triveni-3 and Kapurkot-5 in Rolpa, as a tourist destination.
They have also expressed their commitment to protect language, art and culture to further strengthen the historical and cultural relations between the two municipalities and to continuously coordinate to reduce child marriage, child labor and gender-based violence. Executive members and security officers were present at the first meeting between the two municipalities.
