The fire that broke out in Bardiya National Park a week ago has not been brought under control as of Wednesday night.

The Nepali Army, staff, locals and fire engines of Thakur Baba Municipality deployed for park security have been mobilized to control the fire.

According to the park's information officer Sarojmani Poudel, it is difficult to control the fire due to the lack of transportation facilities in the remote Chure area.

The park staff suspect that people who go to extract honey, collect grass and firewood and poachers inside the park started the fire. The fire started in the northern Chure hills and spread to the southern area.

The smoke from the fire has covered the settlement and Mahendra Highway. Jeevan Shahi, a businessman from Bhurigaun, said that people are having trouble moving around due to the smoke. The park has informed that the fire is also affecting wildlife.
