A 40-day-old woman who was returning home after receiving a temporary contraceptive device (implant) in her arm at Dobhan Health Post, Tinau Rural Municipality-2, has died on the way home. Chameli Saru (Manila), 32, a resident of Masyam Madhuvan, Tinau Rural Municipality-6, Palpa and living in Tokaldi Maiti, Tinau Rural Municipality-3, died on the way and was declared dead by doctors on her way to the hospital.

Saru had gone to Dobhan Health Post on Monday to get an implant. The family said that she fainted when she reached Jhumsa Ambot on Siddhartha Highway while returning to the public transport bus after getting the implant. According to Chameli's father-in-law Man Bahadur Saru, her daughter-in-law Chameli suddenly fainted on the bus while returning home after getting the implant from Dobhan Health Post.

After suddenly feeling dizzy, locals and health workers from the primary health center were called out to provide first aid. She was taken to Lumbini Provincial Hospital for further treatment. After the doctor examined her, Chameli was declared dead. ‘What was the cause of my daughter-in-law’s death?’ The complaint filed by her father-in-law Man Bahadur at the Area Police Office, Butwal, states, ‘A proper investigation should be conducted.’

Saru, who died on Monday, underwent a postmortem at Lumbini Provincial Hospital on Wednesday. According to ward member Tanka Basyal, the body was handed over to her relatives after a postmortem. Dobhan Health Post Chief Thakur Kunwar claimed that the implant was inserted by an experienced senior anmi and that it was inserted only after completing all the protocols, so it was not the fault of the health worker. According to him, the implant does not release hormones and does not prevent pregnancy, so it was inserted this time as it was inserted before. Its effectiveness lasts for three to five years. The deceased Saru had two daughters before. This time, her son was born.

Tinau Rural Municipality Health Branch Chief Krishna Karki said that such a problem should not have occurred due to the implant. ‘It could have happened because the woman had some other problem,’ he said, ‘We cannot say right now that this is the reason for her death.’
