A large amount of currency of various countries has been recovered from the husbands of two Pakistani women who were arrested on charges of theft and fraud of gold ornaments.
Pakistani citizens Webi Kalsum, 20, and Sarvana, 41, were arrested in the theft and fraud that occurred in the district headquarters Taulihawa and Chandrauta on the same day on March 30.
Pakistani citizens Irfan Ali, 23, and Safiur Rahman, 44, who tried to flee Nepal after their wives were arrested, were arrested from Kathmandu on Monday. 17,136 US dollars (more than 2.5 million Nepalese rupees) have been recovered from them. Similarly, 325 Saudi riyals, 1,615 Bangladeshi taka, 5 UAE dirhams, and 185 Malaysian ringgit have also been recovered, said District Police Spokesperson DSP Ripendra Kumar Singh.
‘Investigation is underway against them.’ "The conversation has become easier because they speak clear Hindi," DSP Singh said, "but they are not willing to talk much." He said that more details will gradually be revealed.
During the investigation, their involvement in the gold theft has also been found. According to the police, they would send their wives to the shop to steal gold and cheat and sit outside to 'watch' them. In some cases, they were found to have helped the woman escape in a rented jeep after stealing the gold, the police said.
After the wife was arrested, both of them were arrested while going to the plane after going through security checks at Tribhuvan International Airport and collecting boarding passes. They were arrested last Saturday evening when they were about to leave Nepal on an Air Arabia flight. The police have remanded both of them for 8 days on Monday and are investigating. All four of them are under police investigation.
Webi Kalsum's husband is Irfan Ali. Sarvana's husband is Safiur Rahman. Safiur Rahman has come to Nepal for the third time. Irfan Ali has come to Nepal for the first time.
Two women stole a pair of gold earrings worth 38 rupiahs from a jeweler at Surendra Gold and Silver Shop in Chandrauta, Shivaraj Municipality-5, after confusing the jeweler while looking at the jewelry. Before that, the women had cheated and fled from Bageshwori Jewelers Gold and Silver Shop in Taulihawa, the district headquarters. At the shop, they gave them a pair of rings and a chain on the pretext of exchanging gold, saying that they were genuine gold, and asked for jewelry worth more than one tola, showing it to their friend and saying that they would come in 2 minutes.
The woman and the man had come to Kathmandu on March 24 on a one-month Nepal stay visa. Their visas are valid until April 22.
