After the Gen-G movement, the number of domestic and foreign tourists in Bardiya National Park was relatively low. However, with the onset of festivals, the number of tourists here increased after Dashain and Tihar. Nowadays, the number of tourists is increasing on the occasion of the New Year.
The park has a record of 19,115 domestic and foreign tourists from last Shrawan to Chaitra 29. Of these, 13,047 Nepalese, 819 from SAARC countries and 5,249 foreign tourists visited the park, said Information Officer Sarojmani Poudel.
Revenue has also increased after the arrival of tourists. Poudel said that 35.458 million rupees were collected in revenue during this period.
Domestic tourists coming to the park have to pay a fee of 100, SAARC countries 750 and foreign tourists 1,500. Information Officer Poudel says that the number of domestic, SAARC and foreign tourists has been increasing in the Bardiya National Park, which has gained fame in the world for its tigers, in the past few years.
In 2081/82, 28,068 domestic and foreign tourists visited the park. Last year, 19,010 Nepalese, 1,540 SAARC and 7,518 foreign tourists visited, according to the Bardiya National Park.
'The park is very charming in terms of nature. Tourists come here from far away because of the beautiful place in the Babai Valley, the peaceful area and the main attraction being the tiger,' said tourism entrepreneur Ramji Thapa.
Apart from the park, tourists have been visiting places like Dalla and Pattharbojhi on the Khata Biological Trail. The park has said that tourists are also interested in visiting the crocodile, Ghadiyal Breeding Center, Tharu Museum, blind rhinoceros and problematic tiger enclosures within the park.
Tourism entrepreneurs say that domestic tourists have started booking hotels on the first day of the new year 2003. Tourism entrepreneur Krishna Prasad Bhattarai said that the tourist arrivals have been satisfactory. 'Domestic tourists start arriving from Monday evening to bid farewell to the old year,' he said.
