Police have taken 16 people into custody from Tulsipur and Lamahi in Dang on Sunday on charges of being middlemen.
Police have informed that 10 people have been taken into custody from the Land Revenue Office in Tulsipur and 6 from the Land Revenue Office in Lamahi. The arrested include accountants and service recipients. Police said that they were taken into custody after they were found entering the office and digging through documents in various fields.
Accountants have complained that the police have harassed accountants who are working with a license as per the law. Him Lal Subedi, secretary of the Nepal Accountants and Legal Practitioners Association, Lamahi, has issued a press release and expressed objection to the arrest of accountants who went to the office in the course of work as per the law.
Stating that the police are trying to nullify the right to do accounting, he also warned that if the arrested persons are not released immediately and unconditionally, they will be forced to close the entire land service.
