Thakur Kumar Shrestha of Bhairahawa has won the post of President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Lumbini Province. He is the outgoing President of the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Shrestha defeated Jamsher Ali Miyan of Kapilvastu Chandrauta in the eighth provincial assembly and convention of the federation held in Bhairahawa on Saturday. Shrestha received 96 votes out of 102 votes cast for the Federation's associate category. Miyan received only 6 votes.

Shrestha received 21 votes out of 33 votes cast for the district/city category and Miya received 12 votes. Shrestha also received the only vote for the substantive category. Tankasingh Budhathoki of Dang has been elected as the district/city vice-president, and Raju Maharjan of Palpa has been elected as the associate vice-president unopposed.

Lekhnath Neupane of Nawalparasi has been elected as the treasurer, Badrinath Baral of Bardiya has been elected as a member, Madhavraj Bhandari of Pyuthan has been elected unopposed, while Saurabh Agrawal of Rupandehi and Yubaraj Pokharel of Lamahi have been elected unopposed as associate members. 

There is a provision to nominate two people, including one woman, in the 11-member committee. The newly elected president Shrestha has expressed his commitment to work for the benefit of the profession by strengthening the federation.
