The mayor of Gulariya Municipality, Muktinath Yadav, has said that the general public here is suffering due to the lack of a transport office in the district.
The agitating auto drivers reached the municipality office on Sunday, saying that they are having problems getting a driver's license due to the lack of a transport office in the district. Mayor Yadav said that the higher authorities have not listened to them despite their many attempts to bring a transport office.
'I urge the government to issue a license to auto drivers after completing all the necessary procedures,' Mayor Yadav said, 'The general public has to go to Banke to get a driver's license and renew their vehicles. Even after writing letters repeatedly saying that they will provide land and a building to bring a transport office to Bardiya, the higher authorities have not listened to us. If there was a transport office in this district, the general public here would not have to go to other districts and would have been able to get services easily.'
Most of the auto drivers were repeatedly facing action by the traffic police because they did not have a driver's license. Auto drivers had reached the municipality on Sunday to facilitate the process of obtaining a driver's license. Mayor Yadav urged auto drivers to come to the system. 'Initially, the auto rickshaw should be registered with the municipality, there is no fee for that,' Mayor Yadav said. 'Considering your problems, the municipality will facilitate the process of obtaining a driver's license by filling out a free online form and also bearing the revenue required for obtaining the license.' Shyam Singh Banjara, 52, of Gularia Municipality-3, who is currently suffering a lot from those who earn their living by driving an auto, said, 'I have taken an auto on finance from a company to support my family of 6. I barely earn four or five hundred rupees a day. I am struggling to pay the monthly installment of 15,000 rupees for the auto. I still have 10 installments to pay. If you are caught by traffic without a license, you have to pay a fine of 550,' he said.
Shivaram Yadav, 62, of Gulariya-7, who is having difficulty earning a living and paying fines to the traffic police every day, said. 'I have to go to Nepalgunj to get a license,' he said. 'I am earning every day and making ends meet. There is no need to go to Banke for a license. I don't know how and when to fill out the form for a license. I am happy that the mayor, understanding the problems of poor people like us, has agreed to provide necessary assistance in getting a license.'
Roop Singh Khatri, Senior Accounts Officer of Gulariya Municipality, said that so far 36 auto rickshaws have been registered in the municipality. Autos are registered in the municipality for free, but he said that auto purchase bills and insurance documents are required. Chief Police Inspector Sandeep Belbase of the District Traffic Police Office said that autos should be driven only after meeting all the standards.
