The Mid-Hill Highway has been blocked due to heavy snowfall in Rukum East. The Lukum-Patihalna section in Bhume Rural Municipality-1 of Rukum East has been blocked due to continuous snowfall since last night.
The District Police Office, Rukum East, has informed that dozens of vehicles and passengers have been stranded due to the blockage of the highway. Keshav Raj Gyawali, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Rukum East, informed that night buses leaving from Kathmandu are currently stranded in that section. According to him, 7 buses, one jeep and 5 motorcycles are stranded in the Lukum-Patihalna area, while more than 250 passengers are stranded.
The continuous rain and snowfall are still posing a challenge to road operation. The phone service in this area is also currently disrupted, which has created additional problems. However, Superintendent Gyawali said that coordination is being done with the local level to rescue the passengers.
