The deposits of 47 out of 56 candidates who contested in all three constituencies of Banke in the House of Representatives election have been forfeited.
Tek Bahadur Shahi, Chief of the District Election Office, Banke, informed that three out of 56 candidates have won and only six others have managed to save their deposits.
According to Section 71 (1) of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074, there is a legal provision that the deposits of candidates who fail to secure at least 10 percent of the total votes will be forfeited. According to the same provision, this time 47 candidates from Banke have lost their deposits after failing to secure the required votes.
According to the District Election Office, Banke, only the candidates of the National Independent Party (NISP), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) are the ones who will win this time and save their deposits. The deposits of the candidates of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal and RPP from all three constituencies have also been forfeited.
In Constituency No. 1, the deposits of 11 out of 14 candidates have been forfeited. According to the public vote results, all candidates except the RSP, Congress and UML candidates have forfeited their deposits. Out of 20 candidates in constituency number 2, 17 have forfeited their deposits. According to the Election Office, Banke, only the RSP, UML and Congress candidates were able to save their deposits in constituency number 2.
Similarly, the deposits of 19 candidates were not saved in constituency number 3. Only the RSP, Congress and UML managed to save their deposits. There were 22 candidates in the election fray here. Candidates from parties including the Nepali Communist Party and the RPP could not save their deposits either.
There are 350,371 voters in Banke, which has three constituencies. Of these, 178,139 were men, 172,223 were women and nine were other voters.
