The rural municipality with nutrition-friendly health institutions was declared and women's health volunteers were honored through a formal program on Friday.
Rural municipality health branch chief Padmalal Adhikari entered the declaration process after health institutions across the rural municipality completed 16 indicators and 10 main criteria. After the declaration process is complete, there is a provision for the health institution to send a letter to the local level informing them that they are eligible to be nutrition-friendly.
The meeting of the Nutrition Service Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance Working Committee formed under the local level will confirm the eligibility as per the guidelines based on the details received from the health institution and approve it.
After approval, the health branch coordinator will initiate the declaration of the concerned health institution as nutrition-friendly. After the declaration, information will be disseminated to the community level through women's health volunteers, ward-level nutrition and food security steering committee, etc., and other incentives including financial will be arranged to ensure the sustainability of the nutrition-friendly situation.
After all health institutions have been declared through this process, the municipality informs the health office, and monitoring of indicators and criteria is carried out. After that, the entire municipality will be announced in the presence of the District Coordination Committee chief.
Accordingly, ISMA Rural Municipality has been declared a nutrition-friendly health institution-equipped rural municipality. There are a total of nine health institutions within ISMA Rural Municipality, including five health posts, one basic health service center, and three community health units.
The chief guest of the program, Dron Bahadur Khatri, Chief of the District Coordination Committee Gulmi, along with the Chief of the Health Office Gulmi, Pushpa Thapa, handed over a certificate to ISMA Rural Municipality and formally declared it a nutrition-friendly health institution-equipped rural municipality. 'Especially in the recent times, we will have to work on the human development index,' said JUS Chief Khatri, 'ISMA Rural Municipality has been able to become nutrition-friendly by working with priority.' He praised ISMA Rural Municipality for having previously declared a fully immunized municipality and a maternity-equipped municipality in the health institution.
ISMA Rural Municipality Chairman Bhagat Singh Khadka said that the declaration of a nutrition-friendly health institution-equipped rural municipality was possible due to the efforts of health volunteers, health workers, and employees related to the entire health institution. "Work is being done in the areas of infrastructure, including the Human Development Index," he said. "The municipality has become nutrition-friendly, and this must be ensured at all times."
He said that when his team was elected, no roads were paved in the municipality except for the Madanbhandari Highway section, but now many places have been paved, albeit in small parts, and are in the process of being paved. He said that many achievements have also been made in the sports and tourism sectors.
