Road construction work has been underway in earnest for the past week on the Daunne road section of the Mahendra Highway.

While only 20 meters of road construction was being carried out daily until the first week of December, 120 meters of road slope work has been being carried out on one side daily since last Sunday.

According to Chudaraj Dhakal, head of the project directorate overseeing this road, the pace of work was accelerated by adding workers and machines to the work after the on-site inspection by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising on December 20. Dhakal claims that if the work continues at this pace, the one-way road construction work in Daunne is expected to be completed by next Falgun.

According to engineer Rakesh Jha, who is in the field, work has been going on in Daunne from 7 am to 10 pm daily since the second week of December. During the on-site inspection, a representative of the Chinese contractor who had taken the contract for the road expansion near the 63rd turn of Daunne had reported that the highway was being laid at a rate of 20 meters daily in Daunne.

At that time, Kulman had instructed to increase the speed of work, saying that only 600 meters would be worked on in a month if the work was done at the rate of 20 meters per day, and to report to him every week. He had increased the number of workers working and instructed to do slope work from 6 or 7 places at once. He had instructed to complete at least one-way road slope and blacktop in Daunne by this Magh.

Engineer Jha informed that since then, work has been going on in full swing by adding more workers and slope machines. Out of the 114 kilometers of road on the Butwal-Narayangadh road section, 14 kilometers of hilly road between Dumkibas and Bardaghat falls in Daunne.

77 percent of the road construction work in this area except Daunne has been completed till Monday. The slope road construction work in Daunne has gained momentum. The construction of a sloped road has been taken forward due to the excessive waterlogging in most of the 14 kilometers of Daunne roads during the rainy season. Project Director Chudaraj Dhakal informed that the sloped road is 6 times more durable than the blacktop road.
