The incident of Akhetopahar 'disappearing' from Bardiya National Park is being investigated again.

What you should know

Three years after a rhinoceros horn and tiger tooth disappeared from the old office store in Bardiya National Park, an investigation has resumed.

On October 20, 2079, a rhinoceros horn and a tiger bone were found missing during an inspection of the office's storeroom. The investigation was resumed after three years from Thursday after the accused was not found during the investigation.

The park office stated that the District Public Prosecutor's Office had directed an investigation as per the National Parks Act 2029 since it was a criminal case of theft of valuables. At that time, the police had not received a complaint of theft of valuables. A rhinoceros horn and 25 tiger tusks disappeared while recording the goods in the merchandise section.

The park had conducted an investigation after the incident. After the park failed to arrest the accused, the Central Investigation Bureau of the police conducted the investigation. The park office stated that the investigation was resumed after taking the opinion of the Public Prosecutor's Office after the accused in the theft of valuables was not found for a long time. The statement of the then senior game scout of the store was taken, said Sarojmani Poudel, the senior conservation officer of the park. At that time, the office was not under the supervision of a deputy sub-inspector, so Senior Game Scout Subhash Tharu was given the responsibility. When Tharu handed over the responsibility after the new chief was transferred, it was revealed that the wildlife parts kept there had disappeared. At that time, Tharu was suspended for three months during the investigation, but no concrete results were obtained.

After the old park office was vacated, the female game scout's residence is located in other places except for one room where the eyewear was kept. There is a Nepali Army camp near the place where the disappearance took place, and a check post for the park staff at the main entrance. Since the female game scout lives there, no CCTV camera was installed. Senior Conservation Officer Poudel said that statements will be taken from the staff suspected of stealing the eyewear. He said, "Since the case has no statute of limitations, it is not possible to say when the statement will be completed."
