After the death of 32-year-old Dinesh Tharu of Barbardiya Municipality-10 Dafaiya in a leopard attack on Wednesday, locals surrounded the administration on Thursday afternoon.
They protested by raising slogans such as, "Control the problematic leopard immediately, and the administration cannot remain silent."
Tilku Chaudhary of Barbardiya Municipality-10 Dafaiya said that the concerned bodies have been silent despite the continuous attacks by leopards for a long time. "People are even afraid to go out," he said, "The concerned bodies should take immediate initiatives to control the leopard."
On November 12, 59-year-old Gopi Tharu of Barbardiya Municipality-11 was killed in a leopard attack while he was cutting grass in the Kala Belbhar Community Forest. Similarly, on November 16, 18-year-old Ajita Tharu of Barbardiya Municipality-4 was injured when a leopard attacked her while she was sitting on the straw while she was going to get straw kept near her house.
According to the Division Forest Office, 4 people, including 3 women and 1 man, have died and 7 others have been injured in leopard attacks so far this fiscal year.
