Police have arrested the husband of 22-year-old Anju Tharu of Dakshin Bhakari, Badhaiyatal Rural Municipality-4, who was forced to take the path of death due to lack of citizenship.

Police arrested 26-year-old Anil Tharu from Golpark, Kohalpur Municipality-11, Banke on Monday.

Anil, who had a permanent residence in Badhaiyatal Rural Municipality-4, Dakshin Bhakari, was currently living in Kohalpur Municipality-6, Banke. After Anju's death, a case of abetment to suicide was filed against Anil at the Mainapokhar Area Police Office.

Anil was arrested and remanded for 5 days by the court, and further investigation is underway at the Mainapokhar Area Police Office, DSP Devendra Kumar Malla of the District Police Office informed.

Anil had brought Anju into his house after applying vermilion in the temple. Anju gave birth to her daughter Anita at Anil's house. After that, Anil stopped caring for Anju.

Anju was forced to live in Maiti after Anil ignored her. Anju, who was neglected by her husband, had approached the court demanding a share. The court had ruled that Anil's share should be given to Anju and her daughter Anita.

However, that court decision was not implemented. Anju's lack of citizenship made it difficult to obtain a share. Despite many attempts, Anju committed suicide at home on 22 Kartik after failing to obtain citizenship. Her father, 61-year-old Kanchha Tharu, who had been fighting for justice with her, also followed his daughter's path four days later.
