Patients are increasingly affected by the lack of rabies vaccination at Bardiya Hospital in the district headquarters, Gulariya. According to the District Hospital, Bardiya, 15 to 20 patients are coming daily due to dog bites.

Patients suffering from the lack of rabies vaccine for a long time say that they have been going to Nepalgunj and Kohalpur. Bardiya Hospital has been short of rabies vaccine for about 2 months, said Dr. Subhash Pandey, Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

He said that a letter has been sent to the concerned body for rabies vaccine. The hospital has stated that it is not certain when the vaccine will be available from the provincial government.

The victim's family has stated that they are forced to buy it at a high price in the market due to the lack of vaccine in the hospital. According to a drug dealer, there are 3,500 vials of rabies vaccine in the market.

About 756 people have been injured in dog bites in the district since last Shrawan, said Padya Shrestha, Information Officer of the Health Office, Bardiya. "There is a lack of vaccination for those injured in Bardiya due to bites from community dogs, monkeys and other wild animals," she said. "It is necessary to sterilize and manage stray dogs."

Health workers say that since about 500 vials of vaccine are received annually, they have not been able to deliver them. Many people from municipalities such as Gulariya, Madhuban, Rajapur and others affected by dog bites come here for vaccination.

Durga Khatri of Madhuban Municipality-4 said that she had to go to Nepalgunj after not receiving the rabies vaccine at the district hospital. The vaccine must be administered within 21 days of being bitten by a large dog. Doctors say that it is necessary to identify the dog for this.
